Each sections below provides essential information for authors. We recommend that you take the time to read them before submitting a contribution to Acta Mechanica Sinica. We hope our guide to authors may help you navigate to the appropriate section.
1. Guid for authors
Acta Mechanica Sinica's sections for original research including 3 catalogues:
(1) Invited articles
(2) Full length papers
The key ideas for sections are shown in detailed at About the journal
2. How to prepare a submission
Five parts should be included in your submission, which are full paper (full text, figures, tables and supplementary information), highlight, cover letter, copyright transfer statement (CTS) and a name list of recommended referees.
Highlights should be submitted as a separate file. Please adhere to the specifications as: (a) Include 3 to 5 highlights. (b) There should be a maximum of 90 characters, including spaces, per highlight. (c) Only the core results of the paper should be covered.
Copyright transfer statement (CTS). Authors can download the CTS from the Instruction and Form, and make sure all the authors sign the form. The manuscript will not be published without the CTS.
Submissions should be accompanied by a cover letter stating briefly to tell the content of the submission. The cover letter should also specify if there are pictures needed printed colorfully.
Also, with your submission, 4 referees who are experts on the subject matter should be included. Notice: experts recommended are not your close colleagues, the ones working in your affiliation or your cooperator.
Please consider including younger individuals who, while possibly less well known, are sufficiently knowledgeable to be effective referees. Manuscript materials should be submitted via the journal's online system via https://cn03.manuscriptcentral.com/cstamams .
3. Alternate Format of the Papers
In view of the breadth of the topics covered, it is desirable that papers published are written with clarity and conciseness so that they are accessible to readers from different disciplines. To promote more effective interdisciplinary exchanges, the Editors have decided to encourage an alternate format of the paper besides that adopted currently. Specifically, we encourage that the main text, including all figures, tables and references, are within 6 printed pages, with supporting materials offered as supplement. Manuscripts using the new, alternate format will be reviewed in expedited manners.
4. Manuscript formatting guide
− Notice that manuscripts submitted should be written in MS Word template and LaTeX template. MS Word is preferred.
− A concise and informative title
− The name(s) of the author(s)
− The affiliation(s) and address(es) of the author(s)
− The e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of the communicating author
Each paper must be preceded by a succinct abstract summarizing the most important results and conclusions.
− The list of References should only include works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. Personal communications should only be mentioned in the text.
− In the text, references should be cited by number in a square bracket (e.g. , or [1- 4]) and listed in numerical order in the reference list.
− References such as "personal communications" or "unpublished data" can not be included in the reference list, but should be mentioned in the text in parentheses; this also applies to papers presented at meetings but not yet published or accepted for publication. A date should be given for both "personal communications" and "unpublished data".
− Authors more than 4 should be replaced by the et al.
− Journal's name should be abbreviated, you could find the abbreviated name at http://www.cas.org/content/references/corejournals.
Examples for reference:
− Journal articles:Dyall, K.G.: Relative and nonrelative finite nucleus optimized double zeta basis sets for the elements. Theor. Chem. Acc. 99, 366- 371 (1998)
− Books: Larcher, W.: Physiological Plant Ecology, (3rd edn). Springer, Berlin Heidelberg New York (1995)
− Multi- author books:Hovind, H.J.: Traumatic birth injuries. In: Raimondi AJ, Choux M, Di Rocco C (eds) Head injuries in the newborn and infant. (Principles of pediatric neurosurgery) Springer, Berlin Heidelberg New York, 87- 109 (1986)
Illustrations and Tables
− All figures (photographs, graphs or diagrams) and tables should be cited in the text, and each numbered consecutively throughout. Lowercase and bold letters (a, b etc.) should be used to identify figure parts at top left corner of the figure. If illustrations are supplied with uppercase labeling, lowercase letters will still be used in the figure legends and citations. Figure legends must be brief, self- sufficient explanations of the illustrations. The legends should be placed at the end of the text.
− Tables should have a title and a legend explaining anyabbreviation used in that table. Footnotes to tables should be indicated by superscript lower- case letters (or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data). We suggest author use black and white figures in your text if it could explain. The colorful figures in yourfinal version will print colorfully. For color illustrations the authors will be expected to make a contribution (1000 yuan for figures in 4 pages, plus 500 yuan more than 4 pages) towards the extra costs, irrespective of the number of color figures.
Electronic submission of final version
Please send only the final version of the article, as accepted by the editors. The electronic version should include the original source (including all style files and figures) and a PostScript version of the compiled submission. Formulae, symbols and all subscripts, superscripts, Greek letters and other characters must be legible and carefully checked. Standard mathematical notation should be used:
− Single letters that denote mathematical constants, variables, and unknown quantities should be set in italic type in text and in equations.
− Numerals, operators, and punctuation should be set in Roman type (upright), as are commonly defined functions or abbreviations, e.g., cos, det, e or exp, lim, log, max, min, sin, tan, d (for derivative) should also be upright.
− Vectors, tensors, and matrices should be set in an alternative typeface such as bold italic or simply bold.
The preferred figure formats are EPS for vector graphics exported from a drawing program and TIFF for halftone illustrations. EPS files must always contain a preview in TIFF of the figure. The file name (one file for each figure) should include the figure number. Figure legends should be included in the text and not in the figure file.
− Scan resolution: Scanned line drawings should be digitized with a minimum resolution of 1200 dpi relative to the final figure sire. For digital halftones, 300 dpi is usually sufficient.
− Color illustrations: Store color illustrations as RGB (8 bits per channel) in TIFF format.
− Vector graphics: Fonts used in the vector graphics must be embedded. Please do not draw with hairlines. The minimum line width is 0.2 mm (i.e., 0.567 pt) relative to the final size.
After uploading the file, the submission server will send you an acknowledgement of receipt. If you have any problems or questions concerning the submission of your file, please contact the editor. Please always supply the following information with your data: journal title, operating system, word processing program, drawing program, image processing program, compression program.
The file name should be memorable (e.g., editorial manuscript number), have no more than 8 characters, and include no accents or special symbols. Use only the extensions that the program assigns automatically.
Electronic supplementary material
Electronic supplementary material (ESM) for an article in the journal will be published in SpringerLink provided the material issubmitted to the Editor(s) in electronic form together with the paper and is subject to peer review accepted by the journal's Editor(s).
